HEADS OR TAILS: HIV COMIC SERIES
RipplePHX’s Loteria Project is funded through the National Library of Medicine, along with 7 other projects happening across the country this year! We were fortunate to meet an amazing person heading-up one of our sister-projects in New York called Heads or Tails.
Like the Loteria Project’s goal of helping people access information about HIV, Heads or Tails achieves this through a series of LGBTQ+ Comic Books they’ve created! They’re erotic and filled with real-life scenarios many of us face, sexually, and how sexual health can come into play. They’re beautiful to look at, easy to read, and we think you’ll be surprised how refreshing it is to read about scenarios that you may have already faced – or may face in the future.
We’re so excited that we received 70 different comics in the mail from our new friends at Heads or Tails to include in this week’s Mail-Order-Brief! Some long, some short, even some in Spanish – Choose which comic you’d like to check-out when you order. Get ’em now from the Action Center before they’re gone!

Your Test is Negative…Now What?
From the RipplePHX Inbox: “My At-Home HIV Test Result was negative. Now what?”
If you’ve recently used one of our Free At-Home HIV Test Kits, and your result was negative, it’s a great time to think about how to stay negative. Condoms, PrEP, or sex with an Undetectable person are all great ways to reduce your risk of HIV while remaining sexually active.
Take some time to think about what works best in your life and choose at least one option that realistically works for you! There’s no right or wrong, and you don’t have to adopt them all, but finding at least one option and sticking with it can help you significantly reduce the risk of HIV in your life.
Update your status by ordering a Free, At-Home HIV Test Kit with this week’s Mail-Order-Briefs! Add it to your cart from the Action Center! Next week, we’ll answer your questions about what to do if your result is positive. Stay Tuned!
A NEW WAY TO IDENTIFY HIDDEN HIV RESERVOIRS
Scientists at The Wistar Institute may have discovered a new way of identifying and targeting hidden HIV viral reservoirs during treatment with antiretroviral therapy (ART). Currently, HIV treatment can take a person’s HIV viral load to undetectable viral levels, but can’t eradicate the virus completely because of these hidden HIV reservoirs. This means the treatment can keep the virus at-bay, but if treatment stops, the virus begins it’s attack on the body all over again.
These findings are important because today, it’s unknown why these reservoir cells are different, and finding unique markers to identify these types of cells can help to research treatments to target these cells. One more step towards a cure, hopefully.
Until then, HIV treatment currently consists of 1-2 pills taken daily, along with laboratory monitoring every 3-6 months to keep the virus undetectable. At undetectable loads, the person living with HIV can live a long and healthy life while posing ZERO risk of passing the virus to sexual partners. But daily treatment is critical to those results.
